Two weeks of events and celebrations as the figure of “La Fuensanta”, patron of the city, spends two weeks in Murcia

 No sooner is the summer over and the school year starts than the city of Murcia embarks on another round of fiestas every year with the Feria, which for many of those who live in the regional capital means a visit or two to the massive fairground at the La Fica venue behind the Auditorio Víctor Villegas and at least one meal in the "huertos" – the open-air restaurants which are installed for the duration of the celebrations in the Malecón gardens.

In the 2026 edition of the Feria de Murcia there is, as ever, a wide variety of other entertainments and activities, including bullfights, the Moors and Christians celebrations, concerts and of course the veneration of the patron of the city, the Virgen de la Fuensanta.

The sculpted figure of “La Morenica” is housed for most of the year at her sanctuary in the mountains of the regional park of El Valle, but on September 5 this year she will be carried down to the cathedral in Murcia to preside over the Feria. She returns to the mountains in a major “romería” on September 15, a local holiday which marks the end of the celebrations and one which thousands of Murcianos spend accompanying her on her journey, making the Romería one of the landmarks in the annual calendar.

At the fairground at the FICA venue this year over 150 attractions open to the public, including a giant wheel reminiscent of the London Eye.

The schedule for the last few days of the celebrations includes the following: 

Wednesday September 9

18.00: Children’s Day at the fairground at the FICA venue, all rides half price!

18.30: Archery display at the Moros y Cristianos encampment.

20.00: Fencing display at the Moros y Cristianos encampment.

21.00: Open-air screening of Pocahontas next to the Pasarela Manterola bridge.

22.00: The “Procesión del Pan”, the Bread Procession, of the Moors and Christians celebrations.

Thursday September 10

19.00: The children’s parade of the Moors and Christians sets out from Calle La Merced, continuing along Alejandro Seiquer and Apóstoles to Plaza de Belluga.

21.00: The Moors and Christians re-enact the Embassy of the Foundation of Murcia in Plaza de Belluga.

21.30: Disco music of the late 20^th century in the Jardín Chino.

Friday September 11

18.00: Re-enactment of the Offering of Prince Alfonso and his court as part of the celebration of the Moors and Christians in the Plaza de la Cruz and the cathedral.

19.00: Murcia, La Tarde que Hace Historia as part of the celebration of the Moors and Christians in the Glorieta de España.

19.00: Magic show with Victor Marín and Mago Lumaky in the Plaza de la Paja.

21.30: “God Save The Queen” a concert in the open-air auditorium of the Auditorio de Fofó.

Midnight: a large queimada is prepared in the encampment.

Saturday September 12

12.00: Moors and Christians parade: Plaza de la Cruz, Calle Trapería, Plaza de Santo Domingo, Plaza de Romea.

20.00: The main Moors and Christians parade: Alameda de Colón, Plaza de Camachos, Calle Canalejas, Puente de los Peligros, Gran Vía Escultor Salzillo, Plaza Fuensanta.

Sunday September 13

9.00: Cycle ride on the steep climb to the Cresta del Gallo, registration at murciaciclismo.com.

11.45: Procession of the figure of the Virgen de la Fuensanta followed by Mass in the cathedral.

18.00: Floral offering by the Moors and Christians at the church of San Andrés.

19.00: The Moors and Christians parade, firing arquebuses, from Plaza de San Agustín to Calle García Alix, Calle Pintor Sobejano, Calle Plano de San Francisco, Avenida Teniente Flomesta and Plaza de la Cruz Roja.

Monday September 14

Open day at the TerraNatura water and wildlife park.

21.00: Traditional “huertano” parade, Plaza de Santo Domingo, Alejandro Seiquer, Plaza de Cetina, C/ Barrionuevo, con llegada a Plaza Hernández Amores (Plaza de la Cruz).

1.00: The open-air “huertos” restaurants close in the gardens of the Malecón.

Tuesday September 15

The fiestas end with what for many is the most important day, as thousands accompany the figure of the Virgen de la Fuensanta as she returns in a “romería” on the shoulders of the faithful to her sanctuary in the mountains outside the city.

7.00: Mass to bid farewell to the patron of the city until next year, after which the romería sets off. A long day in the mountains lies ahead!
