Storm Adam floods homes and roads along the Murcia coast
La Manga and San Pedro del Pinatar among the worst-hit areas after intense rainfall leaves streets flooded and traffic unable to pass

Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused flooding across the Murcia Region over the weekend, with coastal towns bearing the brunt of the downpours as roads, homes and businesses were affected. Some weather stations in La Manga del Mar Menor recorded more than 50 litres of rain per square metre in just one hour on Sunday October 18, as storm Adam brought intense rainfall to the coastline.
San Pedro del Pinatar and San Javier were among the worst-affected areas, with emergency services responding to reports of flooded streets, garages and ground-floor properties. In San Pedro del Pinatar, incidents included vehicles stranded in floodwater around Los Cuarteros and Avenida del Puerto, as well as water entering homes and commercial premises.

Further along the coast, La Manga saw significant accumulations of water on Gran Vía, particularly near the Estacio bridge, where conditions made the road impassable. Flooding was also reported in homes, garages and businesses.
The problems weren't limited to the coast. In Murcia city, emergency services received reports of uncovered or missing drain covers along Camino del Reguerón, in Alquerías.
More than 120 emergency calls
By 12.45 pm on Sunday, the Region's 112 emergency coordination centre had recorded 124 calls relating to 122 incidents since the stormy weather began. Cartagena had the highest number of calls, with 33, followed by Lorca with 31. San Pedro del Pinatar and Murcia each recorded 16, while San Javier accounted for nine.
The incidents included 41 reports of obstacles on public roads, 24 requests to pump water out of flooded areas, five rescues involving people caught in freshwater and six incidents linked to general electricity supply cuts.
A separate update covering the evening reported 55 calls and 57 incidents during the day's monitoring. Cartagena again topped the list, with 28 calls, followed by Murcia with 10 and Alhama de Murcia with seven. Among the more serious reports were a vehicle trapped by floodwater on Avenida Europa in Alhama de Murcia, difficulties on the RM-D18 near Águilas because water was crossing the road, and a rescue request for people caught in the storm near El Relojero in Murcia.
Further heavy rain expected
Spain's weather agency Aemet warned that the coastal and inland coastal areas of the Murcia Region faced further heavy rainfall, with more than 50 litres per square metre possible in one hour and between 100 and 140 litres over 12 hours. The Campo de Cartagena, Mazarrón, the Guadalentín Valley and Águilas were under orange weather alerts during the storm, with the warning covering Sunday and Monday.
