October 3 to 12 Annual Feria de Alhama de Murcia
Fairground attractions, a Day Fair, loads of live music and plenty to eat and drink at the annual fair in Alhama to celebrate the Feast Day of the Virgen del Rosario
The annual Feria de Alhama de Murcia takes place on and around the feast day of the Virgen del Rosario, patron of the town, on October 7, and this year will be the new Recinto Ferial or fairground once again hosts the majority of the celebrations in the Nueva Espuña residential development on the western edge of the town.
This fairground will be home to the funfair and the marquees erected by the peñas (or Feria groups) as well as live music almost every night. Occupying an area of 16,000 square metres, it offers plenty of space for the food stalls and other establishments, and the central avenue is 16 metres wide and equipped with benches, trees which provide shade, LED lighting and a fountain.
The fairground has over 200 parking spaces and a tourist train will run to and from the town centre every 15 minutes entirely free of charge.
Other highlights include the musical entertainment, with a host of live performances and top billing for Parrandboleros and Pancho Varona.
The tourist train runs between the fairground and the town centre every half an hour at the following times, with a fare of just 50 cents:
October 3, 4, 6, 10 and 11 from 19.00 to 3.00
October 5, 7, 8, 9 and 12 from 19.00 to 1.00.
The tourist train stops at the bus stop on Avenida Juan Carlos I (except 10th, 11th and 12th October, when this is replace by Calle Francisco Javier, opposite the Casa de Las Américas) and at the fairground.
The street market featuring antiques and natural products is being held from 3rd to 5th October (17.00 to 21.00 on the Friday and 11.00 to 21.00 on Saturday and Sunday in the Plaza de las Américas.
The Day Fair opens alongside the Pabellón de Deports every day except 8th and 9th October from 12.30 to 20.00 (early closing at 18.30 on 11th October).
At the fairground special children's days have been established on October 8 and 9, and various hiking routes and musical events, including the annual folk music and dancing festival.

Friday October 3
17.00: The market opens for the first time in the Plaza de las Américas.
19..00: The opening evening at the fairground attractions and the “chiringuitos” (open-air bars at the “Nueva Espuña” venue.
20.00: The lights are switched on at the fairground.
23.00: Live music from Pancho Varona, longstanding collaborator with iconic singer Joaquín Sabina, at the Nueva Espuña fairground.
Midnight; Entertainments begin at the marquees of the “Peña” fiestas groups.
1.00: Nostalgic DJ music from the 80s and 90s in the chiringuito area.
Saturday October 4
8.00: Introduction to potholing and caving held by the Alhama Club de Orientación y Montaña (alhamacoym@gmail.com).
12.30: The Day Fair opens in Calle Paraquay, alongside the Pabellón de Deportes).
21.00: The official opening speech of the Feria outside the church of San Lázaro.
22.00: The 45th annual folk music and dancing festival begins, featuring groups from Vélez Rubio in the province of Almería, Santiago y Zaraïche in the outskirts of Murcia, Golegā (Portugal) and the local Grupo de Coros y Danzas Virgen del Rosario de Alhama de Murcia. 23.00: Live music from FYV BAND in the chiringuito area.

19.15: Musical bands festival, starting with a reception for the groups taking part in the Plaza de las Américas and a parade through the streets.
20.00: The bands concert begins, with formations from Pozo Estrecho and the local Ateneo Músico Cultural Maestro José Antonio Ayala de Alhama de Murcia, at the church of San Lázaro.

Oficina de Turismo de Alhama de Murcia
Alhama de Murcia Tourist information office is located on the edge of the Plaza de la Constitución, just a few metres away from the underground car park and the Town hall of Alhama de Murcia.
The tourist office offers free guided audiotours in English which take visitors around the historical sites of interest in Alhama. These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.
The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.
The tourist office also carries leaflets for the many cultural events and fiestas which take place in Alhama throughout the year, including Los Mayos, Semana Santa, Christmas,the Romería of La Candelaria and the Auto de los Reyes Magos in El Berro.
