Andalucía struggles with over 1,000 incidents due to Storm Jana
Severe weather continues to cause widespread disruptions across the region, especially in Seville
Since Storm Jana began on Thursday March 5, Andalucía has reported more than 1,095 incidents, with over 90 new reports since just this Monday March 10. The majority of these incidents have been concentrated in Seville, including the capital and Dos Hermanas, where residents have experienced flooded roads, partially submerged houses, sinkholes and falling debris due to strong winds. Other municipalities, such as Écija and Alcalá de Guadaíra, also reported similar problems.
In addition to these challenges, the provinces of Jaén and Córdoba saw further disruptions overnight, with incidents including rockfalls and water flooding basements in La Carolina, Marmolejo, Jabalquinto, Vilches, Córdoba city and Adamuz.
The highest number of incidents was recorded on Saturday March 8, with 491 reports across the region. While Seville has faced significant damage, the provinces of Málaga (307 incidents) and Cádiz (259) have also been heavily impacted.
As the storm persists, authorities continue to advise caution, particularly when driving. Drivers are urged to slow down, avoid flooded areas, and take precautions when driving through waterlogged zones, as well as test brakes after passing through.
In these conditions, it is also crucial to avoid walking or parking near riverbeds and to stay clear of structures that could be compromised by strong winds. Those in coastal areas should stay away from promenades and breakwater zones, as the surging sea can be dangerous.
