Aggressive Brit arrested on flight to Alicante
Plane was forced to turn back and land in UK for police to board and detain him
A flight from Leeds Bradford to Alicante on Monday August 18 was forced to turn back so that a rowdy passenger could be arrested.
Jet2 flight LS491 took off at 6.41pm but turned around over Leicester and returned to Leeds Bradford by 7.26pm.
A video filmed on board shows him standing in the aisle, taunting and arguing with passengers.
The man, dressed in an orange T-shirt and jeans, is seen telling another passenger who was filming him to: “Put your phone down and fight one on one.”
The passenger then stands up and the man raises his fists before a woman tries to mediate between them.
Other people can be heard warning the man that he would be kicked off the plane, while he continues to berate them.
At that point, a uniformed police officer enters the plane a few rows back and amid cheers from the passengers, someone shouts: “Look behind you lad!”
The troublemaker turns around to see the officer approaching and appears to be making excuses before he turns back and aggressively gets in the face of another man who is sitting down.
After a few moments, the officer leads the disruptive man away and many more of the other passengers break out in applause and cheers.
The suspect, a 30-year-old man from Doncaster, faces a charge of entering an aircraft while drunk, and was bailed to appear before Leeds magistrates on Monday September 8, according to a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson.
A spokesperson for Jet2 confirmed that a disruptive passenger on the flight in question was given a six-month ban from flying with the airline, due to his “appalling behaviour”.
They emphasised that they are a "family friendly airline” and “take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive passenger behaviour."
