Salmonella alert for supermarket products throughout Spain
Six different brands of pork rinds sold at Carrefour and Alcampo have been contaminated
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued an urgent recall of six widely available varieties of pork rind snacks that have been found to contain salmonella. These nibbles are currently being sold in several supermarkets in 11 different regions of Spain, including Murcia and Andalucía.
Contaminated snacks
- 'Chicharricos de cerdo' (barbecue flavour) 50g packs of the Frit Ravich brand with batch numbers 3001 and 2301.
- 'Torreznos' (barbecue flavour) 90g packs of the Sun Snacks brand with batch numbers 2901 and 2001.
- 'Chicharricos de cerdo' (barbecue flavour) 100g packs from the SPAR brand with batch number 3101.
- 'Torreznos' (barbecue flavour) 100g packs from the Alteza brand with batch number 3101.
- 'Torreznos' (barbecue flavour) 100g packs from the Carrefour Sensation brand with batch number 2901.
- 'Chicharricos de cerdo' (barbecue flavour) 100g packs from the Auchan brand (commonly sold at Alcampo supermarkets) with batch number 2901.
According to AESAN, the products have been distributed in the autonomous communities of Andalucía, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Community of Madrid, the Balearic Islands, the Region of Murcia and the Basque Country, although redistributions to other autonomous communities cannot be ruled out.
AESAN recommends that people who have products affected by this alert in their homes refrain from consuming them. If you have eaten any of the products from the affected batches and experience any symptoms consistent with salmonellosis (mainly diarrhoea and/or vomiting accompanied by fever and headache), you are advised to visit a health centre.
