Joe Lovano was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and has become one of the most important tenor saxophonists playing today, renowned as a great improviser, spontaneous, innovative, and brilliant. He was been nominated for 15 Grammys (although winning only one, for his 52nd Street Themes) and has also been the recipient of countless DownBeat critics' and readers' awards for best tenor saxophonist, musician of the year, jazz album of the year and the DownBeat triple crown.
An Honorary Doctor of Music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, this living legend of the tenor saxophone returns to Jazz San Javier after his first concert at the festival's 11th edition in 2008 with the San Francisco Jazz Collective, as well as one of the best Italian jazz pianists in, Antonio Farao. A great composer as well as a spectacular pianist, he brings together the best of contemporary jazz in his trio, this time featuring none other than Ira Coleman on double bass and Jonathan Blake on drums.

José James has been described as “a jazz singer for the hip-hop generation” and possesses one of the most admired male voices in contemporary jazz, with a remarkable ability to blend jazz with soul, R&B, and hip-hop. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the album “I Want You” by the legendary singer Marvin Gaye, one of the most sensual and astonishing albums in music history, and having always considered Gaye one of his main influences, José has invited China Moses, a fantastic singer with a radiant stage presence and splendid voice, to join him in paying tribute. China left a lasting impression on her debut in San Javier 13 years ago and the festival is delighted to announce her return for this fantastic concert in a collaboration which is sure to be one of the major musical events of this summer.
