5 great theme park ideas for exploring Spain from Murcia this summer
Fantastic destinations all over Spain for getaway breaks with the family all year round!
In the Region of Murcia there comes a point every year during the long, hot summer when people’s thoughts start to turn to getting away for a while, whether it’s on account of the heat or just the need for a change of scenery!
Although Spain is a large country, getting away is not that difficult, and within fairly easy striking distance are a large number of water parks, theme parks and others which suit the needs of practically every family. For a refreshing water-based break take a look at Guadalpark Sevilla, while other options include the shows and immersive experience of Puy du Fou España and the adrenalin rush provided by the rides at Terra Mítica.
All of these can make just a couple of days away the source of unforgettable memories.
And the great thing about these parks is that each one meets different needs: whether you’re looking for a water park to cool down, an immersive experiences or just something different as a family trip, there’s something here for you!
Of course, although you can make the most of just a one-day excursion, far better to stay over and make it a weekend or a two- or three-day break, exploring other sights and experiences whatever your destination.
1. Guadalpark Sevilla
Around 5 hours by car from Murcia, Guadalpark Sevilla is most definitely a top plan for the summer months, when cooling down for a while is certainly near the top of your list of priorities. This is a perfect weekend away, easily combined with a visit to the historic city centre of Seville just 7 kilometres away, and has become one of the most popular water parks in the south of Spain.
In other words, it’s a perfect way to broaden your horizons without missing out on any of the fun!
Inside the park there are attractions for both the most daring of visitors and those looking for a more peaceful way to enjoy themselves, making it perfect for a family group of mixed ages. Wave pools, rapids and huge water slides mean this is a massive hit every summer, with the atmosphere at its liveliest in July and August – June and September, on the other hand, are generally easier and with shorter queues.
2. Puy du Fou España
Rather closer to Murcia is Puy du Fou España in Toledo, just three and a half hours’ drive from the regional capital. This is one of the most unique theme parks you’ll ever see, full of historical shows, re-enactments and an atmosphere hard to match anywhere else, totally different from the usual “theme park” experience.
As the range of attractions is so enticing for all the family this is a perfect destination for a weekend away, especially if you combine it with a trip to the fascinating city of Toledo, twice capital of Spain before finally losing the privilege to Madrid in the 16th century. Most people agree that the best times of year to visit are in the spring or at the end of summer, when the temperatures are generally warm without being suffocating, allowing comfortable walks outside during the day.
A perfect combination of a unique attraction, a great atmosphere and shows which will get your heart beating faster!
3. Terra Mítica
Even closer to home, just a little over an hour and a half by car from the city of Murcia, is Terra Mítica, and its proximity has made it a favourite destination for those living in the Costa Cálida. Unlike Puy du Fou, this destination combines intensely exciting experiences with family-friendly areas, each of which is based on an ancient civilization and therefore has its own individual and original style and atmosphere.
On top of the attractions and the children’s areas the aquatic shows round off the experience to a tee, both in the summer and throughout the rest of the year.
And of course, the proximity to the coast means you can easily stay in Benidorm or one of the other seaside resorts and take advantage of the superb beaches of the Costa Blanca!
4. PortAventura World
Rather further north along the Mediterranean coast, just outside the historic city of Tarragona, the theme park of PortAventura World is another destination that ticks all the boxes for a weekend escape from Murcia. It works especially well for family breaks, groups of friends and even couples, all of whom have made it one of the most popular parks in the country – no doubt in part because of the best rollercoasters in the whole of Spain!
The reputation of rides like Shambhala and Dragon Khan have helped cement PortAventura’s reputation throughout Spain, making it the envy of other attractions parks, while the water park area, the “Caribe Aquatic Park”, is right alongside and offers you a much-needed opportunity to cool down after all the excitement!
5. Siam Park
If your idea of escape and your budget include a domestic flight without leaving Spain, pop over to Tenerife to visit Siam Park, which is a great favourite among those hoping to transform a quick getaway into a memorable holiday. Rest up in the perfect climate and enjoy one of the finest water parks in all of Europe in an atmosphere where everything revolves around the water itself.
And there are flights to Tenerife from the Murcia airport in Corvera, as well as Alicante!
There are mind-blowing water slides like Tower of Power alongside more family-friendly attractions, making this ideal for a family with kids escaping from the summer in Murcia. And thanks to the climate of the Canaries, Siam Park is popular with visitors all year round, making it easy to avoid the peak summer season by visiting in spring and autumn.
So, before you decide on a trip away from the Region of Murcia, plan your dates carefully and, where possible, avoid the queues and traffic on the busiest weekends of the summer, leaving you free to make the most of your excursion. Whether you choose Guadalpark in Sevilla, Puy du Fou in Toledo or any other visit, whether on this list or not, you can be sure that an escape to one of these fantastic parks is a guarantee of fun for all the family!
