Mercadona expands in Region of Murcia with a brand new, customer-friendly store in Cieza
A modern supermarket opens with a €6.7 million investment and plenty of thoughtful touches
Mercadona keeps growing its presence in the Region of Murcia, opening a fresh new supermarket this Monday in the Los Olivos district of Cieza. This latest addition follows another recent new opening in Totana, back in June and a €6.7 million investment and brings the total number of Mercadona stores in the region to 62, with 55 of those built under their popular Efficient Store model that focuses on a better shopping experience and sustainability. The new store has taken over from the old Mercadona on Jose Ríos Gil Street, which closed because it no longer met the company’s standards. Sitting along National Highway 301, this supermarket offers a spacious 1,800-square-metre sales area and employs 50 friendly staff members who enjoy stable, quality jobs.
A tasty treat: Ready-to-Eat section and eco-friendly packaging
One of the store’s highlights is its Ready-to-Eat section, serving up a variety of homemade-style dishes like crispy croquettes, classic ensaladilla, hearty rice and pasta meals, alongside burgers and sandwiches. Since this section first appeared in 2018, Mercadona has kept updating its offerings to keep up with changing tastes and customer needs. Plus, many of the meals come in environmentally-friendly packaging made from compostable materials like sugarcane fibre and recyclable cardboard.
Taking care of the team with smart tech and design
Mercadona has also put great thought into its employees' comfort, with ergonomically designed checkouts developed alongside the Valencia Institute of Biomechanics to reduce strain. Staff can relax in upgraded break rooms and personal lockers that make the workday a little easier. And thanks to cutting-edge technology, workers stay connected across the store through digital tools that help them manage daily tasks smoothly, which means fresher products and quicker service for customers.
Bright, sustainable surroundings
The store is designed to be bright and welcoming, with plenty of natural light pouring in and warm colours setting the tone. Energy-saving features are widespread, from efficient freezer cabinets to automated LED lighting that adjusts based on where and when it’s needed to cut down power use. Better insulation means the store stays comfortable while keeping energy costs down.
Easy access and shopping convenience
Open Monday to Saturday from 9.00 a.m. to 9.30 p.m., the supermarket offers a huge parking area with 900 spaces, including spots for electric vehicles and bicycles. And for those who prefer to shop from home, Mercadona’s website has the online store ready to serve.
Beyond just stores, Mercadona is deeply woven into the Murcia economy, working with 99 local suppliers and over 400 service providers. Last year, local purchases increased by 11 percent, reaching nearly €1.8 billion, highlighting Mercadona’s vital role in the region.
With more than 3,050 dedicated people working across Murcia stores, Mercadona’s newest supermarket in Cieza promises a thoroughly modern, thoughtful and convenient shopping experience - all backed by its well-known “Always Low Prices” commitment.
